Jesse joins the Bluefish for his first season in the Atlantic League and 10th of professional baseball. Last year, the lefthander appeared in 11 games with Independent St. Paul of the American Association and posted a 1.76 ERA with 19 strikeouts over the course of 15.1 innings pitched.
The 27-year-old was originally drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the sixth round of the 2002 amateur draft. He spent seven seasons in the Giants organization before being claimed off of waivers by the Washington Nationals in 2010. After a strong showing with Triple-A Syracuse, the California-native got the call and made his Major League debut with the Nationals later that year. He made seven appearances and recorded a 3.86 ERA in seven innings of work with the big club. In 150 career minor league appearances, English owns a 34-20 record with a 3.87 ERA and 487 strikeouts in 448 innings of work.
